Recap: Towanda Black Knights vs. Line Mountain Eagles
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for The Towanda Black Knights, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They were the victim of a rough 46-23 loss at the hands of Line Mountain on Friday. Despite 80 more yards than Line Mountain, Towanda couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.
Despite the defeat, Towanda had strong showings from Jazick Brown, who rushed for 125 yards and a touchdown on only six carries, and Rylie Vanderpool, who rushed for 81 yards on only eight carries.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Line Mountain to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ian Bates, who rushed for 64 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries. Nolan Baumert also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Another reason for the win was Line Mountain's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. In fact, those sacks all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Maxim Johnson.
This is the second loss in a row for Towanda and nudges their season record down to 6-5. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 6-5 Wyalusing Valley (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 68.2% over those games). As for Line Mountain, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 9-2.
Towanda does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Line Mountain will head out on the road to face off against Troy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Troy's favor is that they have now posted big point totals every time they've taken the field this season.
