Volleyball Recap: Helias Extends Home Winning Streak to Five

Helias had won five straight at home, but on Thursday they bumped up to 27-1-1 to make it six. They were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over the California Pintos. The Crusaders have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Pintos, too.

Helias' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sophie Verslues, who had 13 digs and two aces. That's the most aces Verslues has posted over her last ten contests. Sydney Suthoff was another key player, getting 11 digs and seven aces.

They weren't the only good servers: Helias was lethal from the service line and finished the match with ten aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in four consecutive matchups.

As for California, their defeat dropped their record down to 18-6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss they have suffered since October 10, 2024.

When it comes to explaining why California lost, don't look at Amelia Motley. Despite the final result, she had 21 digs and two assists. Motley has been hot, having posted ten or more digs the last five times she's played.

Looking ahead, Helias will take on Hermann at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. As for California, they will challenge Fatima at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
