Baseball Game Preview: Gillespie Miners vs. Civic Memorial Eagles

The Gillespie Miners are taking a road trip to take on the Civic Memorial Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Gillespie is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.

Gillespie blew Greenfield/Northwestern out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Wednesday Greenfield/Northwestern got their revenge. The Miners fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Miners have suffered since March 25th.

Luke Schuckenbrock was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases and one run. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

Meanwhile, it may have taken ten innings to finish the job, but Civic Memorial ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out Jersey 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Eagles have posted against the Panthers since May 10, 2021.

The win (which was Civic Memorial's third in a row) raised their record to 10-8. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Gillespie, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-7.
