Baseball Game Preview: Erskine Academy Eagles vs. Lincoln Academy Eagles

Erskine Academy will head out on the road to face off against Lincoln Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

On Monday, Erskine Academy didn't have quite enough to beat Morse and fell 2-1.

Landen Blodgett spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Erskine Academy saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Griffin Hayden, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one RBI. Jacob Lavallee also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Meanwhile, Lincoln Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their 11th straight defeat dating back to last season. They fell 7-4 to Belfast. Eagles fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Lions since on Wednesday.

Ryan Powell was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with two RBI and one run.

Erskine Academy's record is now 1-8. As for Lincoln Academy, their record now sits at 0-8.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Erskine Academy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Lincoln Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Erskine Academy beat Lincoln Academy 5-2 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Will Erskine Academy repeat their success, or does Lincoln Academy has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
