Basketball Recap: Clayton Takes a Loss

After flying high against Raton last Thursday, Clayton came back down to earth. The Clayton Yellowjackets took a blow against the Pecos Panthers on Saturday, falling 63-35. The Yellowjackets were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 33-12.

Natalia Stout was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 22 points and 11 boards for Pecos. Stout is also crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least three every time she's taken the court this season. Brianna Bustos was another key player, putting up eight points.

Clayton has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season. As for Pecos, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 15-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Clayton will challenge Tucumcari at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Tucumcari is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.8 points per game this season. As for Pecos, they will take on Estancia at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
