Baseball Recap: Goddard Has No Trouble Against Portales

While Goddard put up some runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Portales. The Rockets put the hurt on the Rams with a sharp 8-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Rockets, who have now won six contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Goddard got a great performance from Lucien Betancur as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Betancur has posted since back in March.

At the plate, Airell Aguilar was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one double. He has become a key player for Goddard: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-11 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Brady Duer, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Goddard always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Goddard has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-11 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games. As for Portales, their defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-12.

Goddard will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Rams: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
