Baseball Recap: Cloverdale Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Cloverdale can bid farewell to their nine-game losing streak thanks to their game on Saturday. Everything went their way against the Eminence Eels as they made off with a 24-1 win. The Clovers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by six runs or more this season.

Ben Campbell made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Cloverdale is undefeated when Campbell posts two or more runs, but 0-9 otherwise.

In other batting news, Cloverdale got a massive performance out of Drake Hoffa, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three runs and three RBI. Hoffa has become a key player for the Clovers: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 0-9 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Landon Duncan, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one double.

Cloverdale was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .478. The last time their batting average was this high was back in May of 2024.

Cloverdale's record now sits at 4-9. As for Eminence, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cloverdale will welcome South Vermillion at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Clovers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wildcats have averaged an impressive 8.4 runs per game this season. As for Eminence, they will be playing at home against Tindley at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
