Baseball Recap: Valley Gets the Win

While Valley's victory against Weld Central wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Vikings won by a run and slipped past the Rebels 2-1. The Vikings haven't had any issues with the Rebels recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Anthony Soliz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up eight Ks. He is becoming a predictor of Valley's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 4-1 (and 7-10 when he doesn't).

At the plate, Valley's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Andrew Renken, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run. Renken has become a key player for the Vikings: the team is 6-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 5-10 otherwise.

The win got Valley back to even at 11-11. As for Weld Central, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 11 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-15 record this season.

Valley will look to defend their home field on Monday against Peak to Peak at 3:30 p.m. The Vikings' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Pumas have averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season. As for Weld Central, they are taking a road trip to face off against Englewood at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
