Softball Recap: Winona Takes a Loss

Winona had lost three straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 7-7 to make it four. They came up short against Nettleton, falling 11-0. The matchup marked the first time this season in which Winona was not able to get on the board.

As for Nettleton, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 16-4. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games.

For Nettleton's part, Bailey Payne made a splash while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 14 over five innings pitched. Payne has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Nettleton got a massive performance out of Savannah Harlow, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Harlow has posted since back in April of 2025. Chloe Humble was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Nettleton beat Winona by a score of 14-3 on Thursday.
