Basketball Recap: Valley Comes Up Short

Valley extended their losing streak to five on Saturday, dropping them down to 2-17. They came up short against the Atrisco Heritage Academy Jaguars, falling 75-53. While losing is never fun, the Vikings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked 99th, while the Jaguars are ranked 31st).

As for Atrisco Heritage Academy, their victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-8. Those home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 79.6 points over those games.

Rashaud Morris had another great game (as he tends to do), shooting 42% from the field en route to 31 points and five assists. He has become a key player for Atrisco Heritage Academy: the team is undefeated when he posts at least 30 points, but 7-8 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Deon Session, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and 11 boards.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Valley will take on Hope Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Vikings will need to watch out since the Huskies have now posted at least 55 points in their last eight games. As for Atrisco Heritage Academy, they will square off against Rio Grande at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
