Baseball Recap: Monroe County Comes Up Short

Monroe County had lost three straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped down to 9-8-1 to make it four. They lost 11-4 to the Barren County Trojans. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Trojans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-3 back in March.

Briar Bourque made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. That home run was his first of the season.

As for Barren County, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-10. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by seven runs or more this season.

On Barren County's side, Price Thompson was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, Thompson posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March of 2025. He was even better at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI.

In other batting news, Skylar Potter and Jax Vincent did most of the damage at the plate: Potter went 3-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs, while Vincent went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Barren County is 2-1 when Vincent posts three or more hits, but 7-9 otherwise. Jaxon Pierce was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Monroe County is taking a road trip to take on Glasgow at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Falcons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Scotties have averaged an impressive 6.4 runs per game this season. As for Barren County, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Green County at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Dragons' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Trojans' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
