Football Game Preview: Lamar Texans vs. Cesar E. Chavez Lobos + Official Tickets

Lamar has gone a perfect 9-0 against Cesar E. Chavez recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Texans will square off against the Lobos at 12:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Lamar has three straight wins, Cesar E. Chavez has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Lamar is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They claimed a resounding 68-12 victory over Wisdom. With the Texans ahead 41-0 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.

Larry Sanders produced another solid effort rushing for 144 yards and two TDs. Those 144 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Cruz Herrera was in the mix as well, providing Lamar with two touchdowns.

Lamar's run defense was locked in: Wisdom could only muster 2.3 yards per carry. The Texans' run defense has been on the up-and-up: they allowed 3.9 yards per carry earlier this season, but they've only allowed 14.43 on average over their last five games.

Special teams also played a big role in the game for Lamar, adding 14 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Juelz Wilson, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Cesar E. Chavez's offense. They were beaten by Heights 60-0 on Thursday.

Cesar E. Chavez's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Lamar, the win got them back to even at 3-3.

Saturday's contest might be decided in the trenches. Lamar has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 173.2 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Cesar E. Chavez, though, as they've been averaging only -1 rushing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?

Everything came up roses for Lamar against Cesar E. Chavez in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 79-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Texans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
