Recap: Glenvar Highlanders vs. Salem Spartans
The Glenvar Highlanders's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their third straight loss. They received a tough blow as they fell 71-54 to Salem. The match was a 36-36 toss-up at halftime, but Glenvar was outscored by Salem in the second.
Despite the loss, Glenvar saw an underclassman step up: Brody Dawyot scored 18 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Those three steals set a new season-high mark for Dawyot. The team also got some help courtesy of Aidan Hylton, who scored seven points.
Glenvar bumped their record down to 1-3 with that loss, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Salem, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-1.
Glenvar will take on Floyd County at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Floyd County knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matchups -- so hopefully Glenvar likes a good challenge. Salem will be home for the holidays to greet Cave Spring at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
