Football Game Preview: St. Pauls Bulldogs vs. Douglas Byrd Eagles

The St. Pauls Bulldogs will challenge the Douglas Byrd Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in St. Pauls' favor as the squad sits on four straight wins at home while Douglas Byrd has been banged up by seven consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.

St. Pauls gave up the first points on Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. In a tight contest that could have gone either way, they made off with a 27-26 victory over South View.

The match pitted two dominant backs against one another in Yoshua McBryde and Cristian Simmons. McBryde had a great game and rushed for 140 yards and one score. Meanwhile, Simmons was balling out in the loss, rushing for 160 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.4 yards per carry, and also picking up 36 receiving yards.

Meanwhile, Douglas Byrd played a tough matchup on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They lost 28-6 to E.E. Smith.

Douglas Byrd's loss dropped their record down to 0-9. As for St. Pauls, their win bumped their record up to 8-1.

St. Pauls didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Douglas Byrd in their previous matchup back in August of 2016, but they still walked away with a 12-8 victory. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Eagles' Jerry Roberts, who rushed for 155 yards and one TD while picking up 7.0 yards per carry. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be easier for the Bulldogs to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
