Softball Recap: Sherrard Comes Up Short

Sherrard had lost six straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped down to 7-6 to make it seven. They fell just short of the Mercer County Golden Eagles by a score of 5-3. The Tigers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Golden Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2025.

Sherrard saw nine different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ava Stanley, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Another was Makenzy Moran, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

As for Mercer County, the victory got them back to even at 6-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted since March 26th.

On Mercer County's side, Alivia Gillespie made a big impact no matter where she played. She pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Gillespie has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up a single walk in nine consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. That double was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Natalie Thomson was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Sherrard has already played their next contest, a 5-3 defeat against Alleman on the 22nd. As for Mercer County, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 13-4 victory against Princeville on the 21st.
