Softball Recap: Onaga Takes a Loss

Onaga and Valley Heights pushed the score to 17-2 the last time they played Valley Heights, but on Thursday defenses reigned supreme. The Buffaloes fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 2-1. The Buffaloes were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Mustangs earlier this season, when they won 17-2.

Bridgett Campbell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.

This is the second loss in a row for Onaga and nudges their season record down to 15-5. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 6 runs in those games. As for Valley Heights, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-12 record this season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Onaga beat Valley Heights by a score of 24-3 later that day.
