Baseball Game Preview: Cedar Grove Panthers vs. Verona Hillbillies

The Cedar Grove Panthers will venture away from home to square off against the Verona Hillbillies on Friday. Cedar Grove will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.

On Wednesday, Cedar Grove made easy work of North Star Academy and carried off a 12-1 win. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by six runs or more this season.

Meanwhile, Verona fell victim to Nutley and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 11-0 to the Maroon Raiders. The Hillbillies' defeat signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

Cedar Grove's victory was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-4. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games. As for Verona, their loss dropped their record down to 10-2.

Cedar Grove came up short against Verona in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, falling 7-4. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
