The Harrison Central Huskies will head out to face off against the Beaver Local Beavers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Harrison Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
Harrison Central fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Buckeye Local on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 6-5. The Huskies' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Mikayla Pelegreen was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she struck out eight batters over 4.2 innings while giving up four earned runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). Furthermore, she didn't allow a single walk, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024.
On the hitting side, Kara Blackburn was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI. That triple marked the first that she hit this season. Kailey Banal was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Beaver Local, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. Everything went their way against Brooke on Wednesday as they made off with a 12-1 win. The high-scoring effort was just what the Beavers needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.
Addie Thurik was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Thurik was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Tori Druschel was a standout: she went 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brenna Jones, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs.
Beaver Local lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post two or more home runs.
Beaver Local has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Harrison Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-3.
Harrison Central took their win against Beaver Local in their previous matchup on Monday by a conclusive 7-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Huskies since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
