Basketball Game Preview: Halifax Academy Vikings vs. Lawrence Academy Warriors

The Halifax Academy Vikings will take on the Lawrence Academy Warriors at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

On Tuesday, Halifax Academy ended up a good deal behind Southampton Academy and lost 51-33.

Despite the defeat, Halifax Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Luke Corum posted 11 points and seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Ben Christy, who scored six points in addition to six boards and four blocks.

Meanwhile, Lawrence Academy had to start their season on the road on Tuesday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They took a 55-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of Faith Christian. While the Warriors didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Patriots 13-4 in the first quarter.

Halifax Academy will have to keep a close watch on Winston Warren and Carter Hoggard, a pair of players who had a big impact on Lawrence Academy's prior game. Warren went 8-for-17 on his way to 18 points and four steals, while Hoggard dropped a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Hoggard has been hot, having posted eight or more boards the last five times he's played. Cade Oliver was another key player, putting up seven points.

Halifax Academy was dealt a bruising 72-41 loss at the hands of Lawrence Academy in their previous meeting back in January. Thankfully for the Vikings, Nike Wiggins (who shot 55% from the field to rack up 28 points and six rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
