Softball Recap: Tuesday's Loss Ends Brookfield East's Winning Streak

Brookfield East fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Brookfield Central on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Lancers by a score of 3-2. The Spartans were red-hot at the plate heading into the game (they scored no less than ten runs in the three contests prior), but the Lancers' pitcher proved too tough.

Layla Diehl spent all ten innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on 11 hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Annie Bennington made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 4-for-5 with one double. Chloe Wahlen was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
