Basketball Recap: Phillips Comes Up Short

Phillips lost against Lane Tech back in November, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Phillips Wildcats received a blow as they fell 71-52 to the Lane Tech Champions.

Despite the defeat, Phillips saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Messiah Horton posted 20 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Denari Stewart, who had nine points.

Phillips dropped their record down to 3-5 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Lane Tech, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

Phillips will take on Westinghouse in a holiday battle at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday at. Phillips is facing Westinghouse at the right time seeing as Westinghouse is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Lane Tech, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Archbishop Spalding at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. Archbishop Spalding knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six games -- so hopefully Lane Tech likes a good challenge.
