Softball Recap: Cary-Grove Triumphs

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against McHenry, Cary-Grove was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They came out on top against the Wauconda Bulldogs by a score of 5-1. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Paityn Ahlquist was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. That stolen base was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Olivia Osadzinski was excellent, scoring a run while going 4-for-4. That run marked the first that she scored this season.

Cary-Grove kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Cary-Grove's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-5. As for Wauconda, they dropped their record down to 2-12 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Bulldogs beat Cary-Grove by a score of 16-9 later that day.
