League recap: Newburgh Free Academy exits state Top 25 after defeat

Newburgh Free Academy suffered a letdown when it was bounced from the state Top 25 this week after defeating Monroe-Woodbury. The Goldbacks had been ranked 15th, but fell to 27.

Middletown moved up to 308 from 356 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Section 9 AA-I. The Middie Bears climbed the ranks as a result of falling to Kingston 10-0.

Pine Bush's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Dan McNamara threw for 59 and one touchdown and John Thorn had 59 yards receiving. On the ground Dylan Eller chipped in 123 yards.

On the ground, the Crusaders' Kevin Carr has rushed for 702 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Justin Kaffenberger. The Monroe-Woodbury star has 32 catches for 518 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Tigers take on Newburgh Free Academy. At the moment, Kingston is in fourth, while Bill Bianco's team is in third.

The Bushmen were able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating Monticello. Pine Bush came in at 20 in the state poll after placing at number 52 last week.
