Three must be Essex's lucky number: they beat Lancaster with that score not once but twice on Wednesday. The Trojans beat the Red Devils by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 3-1. The victory was familiar territory for the Trojans, who have now won five matchups in a row.

Noah Thompson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Essex saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Keion Hence, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases. Hence has become a key player for the Trojans: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 4-6 otherwise. Another was Hunter Byrd, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Essex's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-6. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Lancaster, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-9.

Coming up, Essex will venture away from home to face off against Westmoreland at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Lancaster, they will welcome Arcadia at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
