Recap: Rocky Mount Gryphons vs. Franklinton Rams

The Rocky Mount Gryphons fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back victories it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They escaped with a win on Friday against Franklinton by the margin of a single free throw, 50-49. For Rocky Mount, this counts as revenge for the 76-70 loss Franklinton walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2023.

It was another big night for Anthony Jones, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds. He has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last seven times he's played. Another player making a difference was Gerald Davis, who scored seven points along with two steals.

Franklinton's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was William Young, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Sean Smith, who scored 18 points.

Rocky Mount's victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-8. As for Franklinton, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-10.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Rocky Mount will take on Northern Nash at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Northern Nash is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 61 points per game. As for Franklinton, they will be playing at home against Southern Nash at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Southern Nash is no doubt hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses.
