The Canyon View Jaguars will take on the Chaparral Firebirds at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Chaparral will square off against a team with plenty of momentum: Canyon View extended their winning streak to seven last Thursday. The Jaguars' pitcher stepped up to hand Buckeye an 8-0 shutout. That's two games straight that the Jaguars have won by exactly eight runs.
Buckeye's batters probably weren't too happy with Emily Davis, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 18 Ks (she gave up zero walks). Davis has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Makenzie Jones and Brooklyn Theiler did most of the damage at the plate: Jones got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run and one stolen base, while Theiler went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Those three RBI gave Theiler a new career-high. Sedona Hernandez was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI.
Canyon View hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in seven consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Chaparral walked away with it. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Colts on Wednesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Firebirds.
Reese Cosman spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits.
At the plate, Parker Liano was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with five RBI and two doubles. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaelyn Moffitt, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and one double.
Canyon View pushed their record up to 24-4 with the victory, which was their 19th straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.2 runs over those games. As for Chaparral, their victory bumped their record up to 14-16.
Chaparral's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Saturday. Canyon View has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.5 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Chaparral, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.6 strikeouts. Will Canyon View keep running through batters, or will the Firebirds buck the trend?
Canyon View took their win against Chaparral in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 17-6 score. Will the Jaguars repeat their success, or do the Firebirds have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
