Baseball Recap: Berwick Takes a Loss

Berwick fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against North Schuylkill on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Spartans by a score of 2-1. The Bulldogs haven't had much luck with the Spartans recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Grant Evensen was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Berwick saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kamdyn Mausteller, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

Berwick's loss dropped their record down to 3-16. As for North Schuylkill, with the victory, they broke their five-game losing streak and moved their record to 6-13.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Berwick will head out to square off against Hazleton Area at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for North Schuylkill, they will venture away from home to challenge Pottsville at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
