Mercer hadn't done well against Wilmington recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Mustangs walked away with a 7-4 victory over the Greyhounds. This was a revenge game for the Mustangs: when they faced off against the Greyhounds back in April, they had to take a 10-7 defeat.

Angelina Eakman was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Eakman was also big at the plate, firing off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-4.

Eakman wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Emma Stoepfel, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Alaina DeLorenzo also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.

Mercer is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for Wilmington, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mercer will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Reynolds at 4:15 p.m. on the 13th. As for Wilmington, they will square off against Laurel at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Greyhounds' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Spartans have averaged an impressive 9.8 runs per game this season.
