South Dearborn suffers sixth straight loss at home

Recap: South Dearborn Knights vs. Rising Sun Shiners

The South Dearborn Knights's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They fell to Rising Sun 57-52. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for South Dearborn in their matchups with Rising Sun: they've now lost six in a row.

Defeat or not, South Dearborn got some senior leadership from Natalie Cantrell who scored 21 points along with six rebounds and Bernadette Wismann who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. Wismann also posted two blocks for the first time this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Zoey Heizer, who scored nine points.

South Dearborn struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They are winless (0-3) when they just don't pass the ball.

Alyssa Simpson continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Rising Sun, dropping a double-double on 16 points and 19 rebounds. That makes it 13 consecutive games in which Simpson has scored at least 25% of Rising Sun's points. Jenna Peelman was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with seven rebounds.

South Dearborn's defeat was their sixth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 3-14. As for Rising Sun, their victory bumped their record up to 6-8.

South Dearborn will head out on the road to face off against Oldenburg Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Rising Sun, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Milan at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Milan is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.
