Basketball Recap: Rock Canyon Comes Up Short in High-Profile Contest with Regis Jesuit

On Friday, Rock Canyon faced Regis Jesuit in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Rock Canyon Jaguars fell just short of the Regis Jesuit Raiders by a score of 56-54. The Jaguars lost against the Raiders in their previous head to head back in January of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 73-48 score last time.

Despite the loss, Rock Canyon still got an impressive performance from Alyssa Goode, who went 8-for-9 en route to 23 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals. The dominant performance also gave Goode a new career-high in shooting accuracy (89%). Brooke Harding was another key player, putting up 11 points and three blocks.

Iliana Greene was her usual excellent self, going 6-for-10 from beyond the arc on her way to 24 points for Regis Jesuit. Thanks to that strong game, Greene now owns an excellent 45.4% field goal percentage. The team also got some help courtesy of Mallory Neff, who posted seven points.

Rock Canyon has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-9 record this season. Regis Jesuit pushed their record up to 17-6 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Rock Canyon and Regis Jesuit are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Rock Canyon will challenge Doherty on March 1st. Doherty is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.2 points per game this season. As for Regis Jesuit, they will host Arapahoe at 6:00 p.m. on March 1st. One thing working in Regis Jesuit's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last eight contests.
