Soccer Recap: Williams Triumphs

With a playoff win on the line, Williams rose to the challenge on Thursday. While the 1-1 score might suggest a draw, it was the Williams Yellowjackets who were credited with the win. The Williams Yellowjackets got it done in the shootout by posting nine goals to the Caruthers Blue Raiders's eight. Given the Yellowjackets' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 135th, while the Blue Raiders are ranked 554th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Williams' victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-1. As for Caruthers, their defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-13.

Looking ahead, Williams will challenge Piedmont at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Williams' last three contests have been decided by no more than a goal, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. Caruthers does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
