Baseball Recap: Wednesday's Victory Is Ferndale's Sixth in Last Eight Outings

While Ferndale's win against Oak Park wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Eagles had just enough and edged out the Knights 8-7. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Eagles also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2022.

Matthew Trumpy made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched 2.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Ferndale is 6-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 5-8 otherwise. Trumpy was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs.

In other batting news, Taylor Williams was excellent, going 1-for-2 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Isiah Harris, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs.

Ferndale is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.6 runs over those games. As for Oak Park, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-7-1.

Coming up, Ferndale will take on Cranbrook Kingswood at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Cranes have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.12 runs per game on average), something the Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Oak Park, they will square off against Chandler Park Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
