Baseball Recap: John Glenn Takes a Loss

John Glenn extended their losing streak to five on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 2-11 in the process. They lost 9-1 to the Bayport-Blue Point Phantoms. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Phantoms this season, with their most recent defeat being a 17-0 loss on Tuesday.

John Glenn saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hunter Klinger-Cooley, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

As for Bayport-Blue Point, the win keeps they at an undefeated 13-0. Considering they have won nine contests by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

On Bayport-Blue Point's side, Brady Gelling made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out six over five innings pitched. Gelling was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mike Messina, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Colin Most, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

While John Glenn had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:15 p.m. on Friday.
