Recap: Northwestern Bulls vs. Norland Vikings
The Northwestern Bulls entered their tilt with the Norland Vikings with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. Northwestern secured a 40-34 W over Norland on Friday. For Northwestern, this counts as revenge for the 46-18 loss Norland walked away with the last time they faced one another back in November of 2022.
Northwestern's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Janyiah Mickens led the charge by dropping a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. Mickens is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Sophonie Felix was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Northwestern pushed their record up to 11-5 with that victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.8 points per game. As for Norland, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-13.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Northwestern will take on Mater Lakes Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Norland will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Dillard at 6:00 p.m. on February 1st.
