Softball Recap: Epping Blue Devils vs. Pittsfield Panthers
Epping extended their losing streak to five on Tuesday, dropping them down to 7-6. They lost 10-3 to the Pittsfield Panthers. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, with their most recent loss being a 13-1 defeat last Monday.
As for Pittsfield, their victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-1. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by seven runs or more this season.
For Pittsfield's part, Alex Penney made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 15 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). Penney has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than 11 strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alivia Lavigne, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double. Chelsee Chagnon was another key player, going 3-for-5 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
