Baseball Recap: Laurel Hill Gets the Win

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Laurel Hill ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They skirted past the Ponce De Leon Pirates 11-10. With that win, the Hoboes brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Anthony Spera made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with six RBI, one triple, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lucas Taylor, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two runs and one double. What's more, he posted two hits, the most he's had since back in March of 2025. Chance Hass was another key player, getting on base in two of his five plate appearances with two runs.

Laurel Hill's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 2-13. As for Ponce De Leon, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-10.

Coming up, Laurel Hill will square off against Paxton at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Ponce De Leon, they will challenge Altha at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.22 runs per game on average), something the Pirates will no doubt try to take advantage of.
