Softball Game Preview: Fisher Gators vs. Haynes Academy

The Fisher Gators are taking a road trip to square off against Haynes Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Fisher's pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so Haynes Academy's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Fisher will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Tuesday, then bounced right back against L.W. Higgins on Wednesday. Fisher was the clear victors by an 18-3 margin over L.W. Higgins. Considering the Gators have won five matchups by more than nine runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Gabby St Ann was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. St Ann was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Sydnie Victoriano and Talyn Feicht did most of the damage at the plate: Victoriano went a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Feicht scored two runs and stole Three bases. while going 2-for-2. That's the most runs Victoriano has posted since back in March of 2024. Jessie Schutt also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen bases of the season.

Fisher always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .680. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Haynes Academy beat Thomas Jefferson 12-9 on Tuesday. Considering Haynes Academy's hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Fisher is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 14.3 runs. The victory got Haynes Academy back to even at 2-2.

Fisher suffered a grim 16-0 defeat to Haynes Academy when the teams last played back in March of 2019. Can Fisher avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
