Recap: Monroe Redhawks vs. Weddington Warriors
It was a good run, but the Monroe Redhawks unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Monday. They received a tough blow as they fell 57-39 to Weddington. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Monroe in their matchups with Weddington: they've now lost seven in a row.
Despite the loss, Monroe saw an underclassman step up: Bryson Simpkins scored 16 points. Another player making a difference was Gavin Davis, who scored six points.
Weddington got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was KJ Younger out in front who scored 20 points along with seven rebounds. Younger has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last 11 times he's played. Aidan Cook was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with six assists.
Monroe's defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-7. As for Weddington, their win was their 11th straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 22-1.
Monroe won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Central Academy at 7:30 p.m. on February 13th. Monroe is facing Central Academy at the right time seeing as Central Academy is stuck on a ten-game losing streak. As for Weddington, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Marvin Ridge at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Weddington's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last 19 matchups.
