Basketball Game Preview: Edgewood Mustangs vs. Mt. Vernon Wildcats

The Edgewood Mustangs will take on the Mt. Vernon Wildcats in a tournament on Friday. Edgewood is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.4 points per game this season.

Last Friday, Edgewood came up short against Indian Creek and fell 49-39. The defeat continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Braves: they've now lost six in a row.

Despite the loss, Edgewood got top-tier performance from Macey Crider, who almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine rebounds. Crider is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down nine or more in the last three games she's played. Ava Laroche was another key player, putting up seven points.

Meanwhile, Mt. Vernon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their 13th straight defeat dating back to last season. They were outmatched by Washington and fell 58-9. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 362nd, while the Hatchets are ranked 14th).

Mt. Vernon's loss dropped their record down to 0-12. As for Edgewood, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-3.
