Basketball Recap: Pahokee Takes a Loss

Pahokee was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They came up short against the Okeechobee Brahmans, falling 54-34. While losing is never fun, the Blue Devils can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 590th, while the Brahmans are ranked 124th).

Ja'Tahj Dowdell was Pahokee's leading scorer, having posted five points. Javian Jones held things down on the boards with 14 rebounds.

It was another big night for Oliver Saunders, who went 7 of 13 on his way to 19 points and six steals for Okeechobee. That's the most points Saunders has posted since back in January. The team also got some help courtesy of Chaynaya'Ah Phillips, who posted seven points and four steals.

Pahokee's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Okeechobee, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-1.

Pahokee will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Riviera Beach Preparatory and Achievement Academy at 6:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025. As for Okeechobee, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 48-44 victory against Moore Haven on the 13th.
