Baseball Game Preview: Archbishop Alter Knights vs. Oakwood Lumberjacks

The Archbishop Alter Knights will head out to take on the Oakwood Lumberjacks at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.

While Knights fans will have to keep waiting for their team to come home, they shouldn't be too worried about the road trip considering the result of Saturday's season opener. They never let Waynesville get on the board and left with a 7-0 win on Saturday. The Knights not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since May 2, 2024.

The result came thanks to Conner Watkins's shutout, as he gave up just four hits and racked up 11 Ks. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Archbishop Alter let Thomas Sciarretti and Jake Hemmert run wild. Sciarretti scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3, while Hemmert scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. Those two hits gave Hemmert a new career-high.

Meanwhile, Oakwood took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on March 12th. They were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over Milton-Union.

Archbishop Alter came up short against Oakwood when the teams last played back in May of 2024, falling 8-5. Can Archbishop Alter avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
