Basketball Recap: Dwyer Takes a Loss

After flying high against Santaluces on Monday, Dwyer came back down to earth. The Panthers were just a bucket shy of victory on Tuesday and fell 41-40 to the Treasure Coast Titans. The Panthers were not able to make up for their defeat to the Titans from their previous meeting back in January.

Despite the loss, Dwyer saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Maressa Deitch posted 12 points in addition to six rebounds and six steals. With that strong performance, Deitch is now averaging an impressive 2.6 steals per game. Maya Kutsmeda was another key player, putting up ten points.

Treasure Coast was led to victory by Reniah Flynn and Justice Alexis. Flynn dropped a double-double with 13 points and ten boards, while Alexis almost dropped a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Alexis a new career-high in blocks (four). Another player making a difference was Alyssarai Gordon, who had two points and four steals.

Dwyer suffered their first road defeat, dropping their record down to 3-2. As for Treasure Coast, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 5-0.

Looking ahead, Dwyer will be playing at home against Jupiter at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Warriors have been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Treasure Coast, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 64-13 win against Westwood on the 3rd.
