Baseball Recap: Berwick Comes Up Short

Berwick had lost 11 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 1-10 to make it 12. They came up short against the Pittston Patriots, falling 19-4. The Bulldogs were not able to make up for their loss to the Patriots from their previous meeting back in May of 2023.

Luke Sult made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and two RBI. Jake Lisnock also deserves some recognition as he scored his first runs of the season.

As for Pittston, the win keeps they at an undefeated 12-0. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average this season.

On Pittston's side, Jacoby Harnen looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Harnen has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Elijah Barr was a standout: he got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Nick Innamorati, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Berwick will take on Wyoming Valley West at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bulldogs are facing the Spartans at the right time seeing as the Spartans are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Pittston, they will challenge Crestwood at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The Comets' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the Patriots' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
