Basketball Recap: Kearney Catholic Takes a Loss

If Kearney Catholic was riding high fresh off their 57-35 takedown of Hershey last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Kearney Catholic Stars took a 62-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Scotus Shamrocks on Saturday. While losing is never fun, the Stars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 100th, while the Shamrocks are ranked 31st).

When it comes to explaining why Kearney Catholic lost, don't look at Owen Axmann. Despite the final result, he posted 20 points and five boards. The dominant performance also gave Axmann a new career-high in assists (four). Another player making a difference was Will Hogeland, who put up ten points and eight rebounds.

Kearney Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 10-9. As for Scotus, they have been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season.

Looking ahead, Kearney Catholic will head out to face off against Ashland-Greenwood on Thursday. As for Scotus, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Lakeview at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Scotus has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 185 points over their last three contests.
