Softball Game Preview: Meridian Trojans vs. Oak Harbor Wildcats

The Meridian Trojans will face off against the Oak Harbor Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meridian will be strutting in after a victory while Oak Harbor will be coming in after a loss.

Having struggled with 11 defeats in a row, Meridian turned things around against Bellingham on Thursday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Bayhawks a 7-0 shutout. The Trojans not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since March 17th (when they won 29-9).

Meanwhile, Oak Harbor fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Stanwood on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They came up short against the Spartans, falling 21-14. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Haylee Burleigh made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 4-for-6 with one home run, four runs, and one triple. She is also on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Layla Suto was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Oak Harbor's loss dropped their record down to 11-8. As for Meridian, their win bumped their record up to 3-14.

Meridian couldn't quite get it done against Oak Harbor when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 9-5. Can the Trojans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
