Baseball Recap: Lumberton Takes a Loss

Lumberton made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Gray's Creek, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Pirates fell just short of the Bears by a score of 5-3 on Friday. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Bears this season, with their most recent loss being a 14-7 defeat back in April.

Jace Wilson was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Lumberton saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brennan Griffin, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Lumberton's defeat dropped their record down to 15-8. As for Gray's Creek, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-8 record this season.

As of now, neither Lumberton nor Gray's Creek have any future games scheduled.
