Dillon dropped to 9-11 on Friday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They came up short against the Loris Lions, falling 16-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lions this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-7 back in March.
Kanyla Tanksley was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
As for Loris, their victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-3. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won nine matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.
On Loris' side, Jessie Cartrette was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and not a single walk). Cartrette has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with five RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Kenzie McCoy was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with five runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Caitie Black, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Coming up, Dillon will be playing at home against Hartsville at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Red Foxes' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the Wildcats' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Loris, they will head out to challenge Carolina Forest at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Lions 3.5, the Panthers 2.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
