Soccer Game Preview: Athens vs. Mineola

It'll be a Battle of the Bugs the Athens challenge the Mineola at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday... Athens has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with three straight losses, while Mineola will come in with three straight victories.

Things were looking good for Athens after they put the first points on the board on Friday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Cumberland Academy by a score of 2-1.

Meanwhile, Mineola kept a clean sheet against Brownsboro on Friday. They were the clear victor by an 8-0 margin over the Bears. Considering the Yellowjackets have won five contests by more than two goals this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Mineola's win bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Athens, they now have a losing record at 3-4.

Athens took their victory against Mineola in their previous matchup back in February of 2024 by a conclusive 5-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Athens since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
