Recap: Thompson Warriors vs. Oxford Yellow Jackets
The Thompson Warriors have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five games by 24 points or more this season. They breezed by Oxford on the road to the tune of 68-38. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 41-19.
When it comes to explaining why Oxford lost on Wednesday, one person who can't be blamed is Xaionna Whitfield. Despite the final result, she scored 13 points along with five rebounds. The contest was Whitfield's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Shay Montgomery, who scored six points along with six rebounds.
Thompson is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season. As for Oxford, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-8.
Thompson will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Hoover at 5:30 p.m. on January 5, 2024. Oxford will be home for the holidays to greet Spring Garden at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Spring Garden will be coming into the matchup with an undefeated record on the line.
