Basketball Recap: Jay County Makes It Eight in a Row at Home

Jay County hadn't done well against New Castle recently (they were 1-6 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Jay County Patriots had just enough and edged the New Castle Trojans out 58-56. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Patriots.

Despite the loss, New Castle still got an impressive performance from Mason Miller, who went 8 of 15 en route to 27 points. Those 27 points gave Miller a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Alijah Turner, who posted eight points and six rebounds.

Jay County pushed their record up to 3-2 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.0 points per game. As for New Castle, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Jay County and Delta will compete for holiday cheer at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Delta will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Jay County surely won't give up without a fight. New Castle will take on New Palestine in a holiday battle at at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. New Palestine knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four games -- so hopefully New Castle likes a good challenge.
